"Newvas"

In the future, if you ever see the word "newvas", that is just a simple way for me to say torn newspaper articles on canvas. I guess mixed media would be ok to say as well, but I dig calling it newvas, so that is what it will be called.


Originally, I did this style with the torn articles glued onto poster board with pastel chalks (example pieces shown on here). This proved to be a bit messy as well as unstable. I then decided to use a matte medium to paste the articles to canvas and use a medium I work better with, which is acrylic paint. I might venture back to doing it like I did before once I revamp the system so it's a littl more stable and not possibly fall apart. But, for now, I like what I have come to after trial and error.



A piece I did for the band, Flogging Molly. I was told that it now hangs in the office of their label, Side One Dummy Records.

So, now you will know what I mean when I say newvas!
