Wedding party gifts

It has been 3 years now since I got married and I am finally getting wedding party gifts done. I decided to do paintings for everyone in our wedding party. I'm roughly at halfway done with them. Here are some recent ones I just finished. All are acrylic on "newvas", 11x14 inches.

This one was done for Clayton who was my last minute groomsman. A valuable lesson was learned by this and I am glad he was able to hop into this role. and he got a free painting out of it....3 years later.

This painting was done for our maid of honor, Kristina. She is a very talented actress, dancer, etc. She also loves polka-dots.

This was done for one of our bridesmaids, Fallon. She likes turtles and the color purple....obviously.

This was done for Kacie, another bridesmaid. She LOVES the Nightmare Before Christmas. I don't usually do other people's work, but I figured I would do this with a bit of my style to it. I have it officially stating on the back that these characters were redone by me, so please don't sue me (I'm broke anyway).

A blast from my High School past for my best man, Gavin. A character I use to do as a goof. His name is I.M. Blank and is still a huge favorite of Gavin's. Some of the newvas even contains an article related to his profession (totally subconscious accident).

Now I have a few more to get going on. A couple I have no idea what I am doing yet. Hoping these are done before my 4th wedding anniversary.

REJECTED! REGROUP!

So, neither one of my proposals for the Art In Public Places were chosen for the Shock Art project! the word "Shock" is a little too fitting, but it works since I am shocked that the tiki one didn't get chosen, at least. Shocked to what I witnessed how voting was handled, or mishandled. Shocked to see my votes lessened after peeking through the slot of one of my proposals 2 days back to back (and votes sticking out of others that weren't before). Then again, I am not shocked (don't try to figure it out, you'll strain your brain cells). It is a very typical outcome. Plus side of this.....one is that a box I voted for WAS picked. Another is that I will be taking these rejected boxes and making them into some paintings. I will be looking into getting an etsy account and a pay pal account and go from there, as well as beef up my portfolio and see if I can get my stuff displayed at some coffee shops and such.


I guess my stuff just wasn't good enough to beat a unmixed rubix cube. But, hey, why don't I let you all be the judge. Here are my proposals (coming to a "newvas" near you....if you happen to see them in person at a coffee shop, or someone's house).

There you have it, what was once 2 possible spruce ups for electrical boxes, now rejected proposals. Please let mw know what you think of these. I tried to think of something that would make me want to park my car and take a picture of it cause it is so interesting. Oh well. Back to the drawing board.

Wall murals anyone

So, I am a bit behind on pimping out myself to do wall murals. I have only did one in my time (a little over a year ago for my daughter). I ended up doing it in a very short amount of time and refrain from criticizing it personally cause I promised my Mom I wouldn't. My daughter still loves it and I am looking to add a few more things upon her request.






This mural was inspired by some purple and pink dot wall decals we got for my daughter's room.

Some space was left here and there for future add ons.

The mural was done in a time frame of 72 hours

What was possibly going to be the most painful and unliked part of the mural turned out to be one of my favorites. Could not deny my little princess a castle!

Things to come

Very glad that I have decided to run with this whole selling my art and having it as a business, eventually. Things have just been falling into place, as well as a few plans of action going full swing. Sorting through all the stuff I have, material, old sketches, ideas, etc. have really been helping my surge of artistic gusto.

I still need a real job, one that pays well so I can keep helping out with my family. But this time around, I will push to balance things better so that my art doesn't, once again, get left on the back burner. Hopefully I can make my art really help bring in much needed money for my family as well as be an outlet for me (never want to lose that aspect of it).

A few ideas have hit me these past few days for future projects. I am hoping this time next year I will be renting tables/booths at art festivals and such to be able to provide such ideas for sale.

- I came across some material that will work well as book mark material (I still have a book mark I made from ripped up receipts, left over sticker edges....yup, I am quite a pack rat, but have tossed a lot of stuff recently....and I did some drawings on both sides). I figured, hell, I can do some originals to start and then print up more on nice bookmark worthy paper.

- Looking into getting prints made of original work, but for now just getting the money from what I can. (I know it's not the way to go, but I am a art college drop out, didn't take business in art).

- Screen printing is in my future for sure and I hope to do a shirt very soon to wear and strike some interest. Even got an idea for a shirt Koli can wear and hope people will ask about it.

- Still want to incorporate string into a painting (and even ribbon). Use it like thread to give a 3D effect. So actually sewing it into the canvas. Almost did it for a few pieces, but going to follow through on the next batch.

- Have several series ideas for art work and looking forward to that.

- Many more ideas I thought got lost, but found them as I have been organizing my art corner in order to start making art like a mad man, the way it should have been and will be!

Shock Art Proposals

Art in Public Places in Longmont is looking for votes for 5 electrical boxes to be painted by local artists. There are over 20 box proposals and I submitted 2 of them. Voting started on May 20th at the Muse Gallery. Voting for the boxes will continue starting this Tuesday, May 24th and go on til June 12th at the Longmont Museum and Culture Center (400 Quail rd.)http://www.ci.longmont.co.us/museum/about/directions.htm The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday 9am - 5pm and Sunday 1pm - 5pm. The boxes that will be painted are at these locations:
1) HWY 66 & Pace
2) 17th & Francis
3) 10th & Francis
4) 6th & Terry
5) Pike & Miller


I am asking for anyone in Longmont, outside of Longmont, and those who know others in Longmont, to come out and vote. This is a big deal for me and could really give my art a shot in the arm it really needs. I also ask that you do vote fair and truly ponder what you would like to see on an electrical to replace that plain green color. There are five votes allowed.



I designed what I felt would be something that would cause people to want to take a picture of it, or just look at it, or even use it as a marker when giving directions. I did a Tiki box and a Robot box. Your votes are greatly appreciated. Here is the Tiki box (most of it):

Past work

Here are some paintings I did to show a bit more variety of my work.


Painting I did for my derby sister who owns Derbyville in Denver.

I did this painting for a good friend and all around incredible musician, Elvis Cortez, of the band, Left Alone. This one has tons of detail. This was a gift to say thank you for all he does for me and my family. If you ever get a chance to see these guys play live and you like punk music, I highly recomend it and tell them I said "hey".

A wedding party gift for one of our brides maids who was also a member of RMRG, Pinky 500. I was going to do this with a real ribbon, but decided to try that for another painting.

This was on a drawing journal for an incredible tattoo artist friend of mine. If you ever want a great tattoo, go to Keisha at Millenium tattoo in Fort Collins!

This was done for Kim Nekroman of the Nekromantix and Horror Pops. It is a cartoon version of his actual bass he plays for the Nekromantix.

This was a painting done for Wilkie, a very good friend of the Bouncing Souls. This was a thank you present for his help in allowing me to propose to my wife during a Souls show in California. I was told he is very picky, but loves this painting. I hope so, cause it was very hard to let this one go.

This was a wedding party gift for our flower girl, Justice. She had to not just be a flower girl, she also had to drag a bulldog down the aisle with her.

This painting was done for Patricia Day of the Horror Pops. This was done way before Kim's. I did some writing journals for them and she asked if I do paintings. I asked what size, subject, etc. and she told me it was all up to me. She gave up on me, but I finally showed up with this bad boy (I think it was 24 inch x 36 inch). She was VERY happy!

This was a going away present for Pinky 500. She loved it.

This was a purchased piece by retired rollergirl, Zoom Zoom Zetta. She simply said she likes stars, hearts, lady bugs and the color red, so this is what came from it. I later did another lady bug like this one, but smaller, for my wife cause I wouldn't have gotten this out of the house if I didn't promise one for her.

More stuff on the way, including some writing journals I did for different people as well as a sneak peak of some upcoming projects.

Shields

Here is a collection of shields I did for a friend's employees/co-workers. Each one fits every individual, but the common part is that they are shields...kind of fitting for a team like thing.
